■コラム「人の真似をする」
英語の表現、言い回しにはそれぞれの人の癖がでます。私も以前アメリカに住んでいた頃、フィリピン人のルームメイトと遊ぶことが多かったので、彼のアクセントが身に付いてしまいました。
一緒に遊んで、彼の話し方を真似することで彼の表現を"盗む"様にしていました。
おかげで本などには載っていない様な表現からジョークまでいろいろと学ぶことができたと思います。
「英語を話す友達がいない」と思っている人もいるかと思いますが、別に真似をするのは友達でなくても構いません。映画などを見ていて、気づいた面白い表現を"盗む"ようにすれば良いのです
特に、最近はDVDで映画を見る人が多いと思うのですが、便利なことに字幕の言語を選ぶことができます。
普通に日本語字幕で映画を楽しみつつ、ちょっと使えそうな表現が出てきたら、英語字幕に切り替えて何といっているか聞き返してみる様にしてみるといいと思います。
使えると思った表現は何度かつぶやいて覚える様にしてみましょう。英語で話している時に無意識に出てくる様にまでなれば自分のモノになったと思っていいでしょう。
こうやって語彙や言い回しを増やしていけるといいと思います。
◆編集後記
週末は機会があってアフリカ人の方と2日間一緒に行動していました。彼はフランス語を話すので、なかなか意思の疎通が難しかったのですが、なんとかなりました。
シチュエーションなどを考え、彼が言っている言葉の意味を推測する様にしていました。また同時に真似して使ってみる様にもしていました。おかげでアフリカ訛の発音も学習できたし、この数日でいくつかのフランス語の言い回しを覚えることができたと思います。
